How The Condition of Dry Eyes Begins in The Visual System
There are 3 distinct tear layers in the eye. The first layer is called the mucus layer. The function of this special layer is the production of tears that provide protection from microbial bacteria in the eye, thereby protecting the cornea from infection. The second layer is called the water layer which provides the tear-producing material to the eyes which mainly consists of 90% water. The third layer is called the oily layer. The function of this layer is to prevent the evaporation of tears into the tear film on the cornea which can help prevent dry eyes. If one of these layers is not functioning properly, for example in the case of the oily layer, stops functioning properly, no oily lubrication is provided to retain moisture in the tear film.

This results in the evaporation of tears leading to dry eyes. In addition, the eye's immune system may be impaired and compensate for dryness or lack of tear production in the eyes by overproducing poor-quality tears.
Additional Causes of Dry Eyes
1. Some additional causes of dry eyes include smoking, drinking coffee, wearing contact lenses and exposure to certain environmental factors such as heaters and air conditioning.
2. Certain eye diseases and health conditions such as diabetes, glaucoma, asthma, lupus and a thyroid condition.
3. Excessive close-up work on the computer: When you are doing excessive close-up work on the computer, you reduce your blinking rate. This reduction in blinking causes staring which is a bad visual habit that reduces the amount of tear production in the eye causing symptoms such as eye strain and dry eyes.
4. Nutrient deficiencies: Scientific research indicates that vitamin D deficiency can lead to some problems related to dry eyes such as insufficient tear production in the eyes.
LASIK Surgery Side Effect
This is often a side effect of LASIK surgery because during this surgical procedure for vision correction 60-70% of the tear glands in the tear film of the cornea are cut. It interferes with the normal functioning of the tear glands and causes dry eye symptoms for several months to a year after surgery.
Age
One of the negative effects of aging on the visual system includes the development of dry eyes. This is due to the fact that you lose a large percentage of your tear film production as you age. Research shows that 75% of people over the age of 60 complain of dry eye symptoms and by the time you reach this particular age, you have lost a significant percentage of your tear film production. .
Dry Eyes Treatment Options

Finding an eye exercise program to improve vision naturally will help relieve dry eyes. This type of program consists of eye exercises that relax the eye muscles and stimulate the production of natural tears in the eyes. Eye exercises will also prevent your eyesight from deteriorating as a result of the long process of staring at a computer screen for hours. An added benefit of eye exercises is the fact that these techniques are 100% natural and very safe to perform without the unpleasant side effects of prescription tear eye drops. Eye exercises are ultimately an effective natural alternative to relieve or reduce the symptoms associated with dry eyes.
